On Wednesday, the Biden Administration launched new guidance about airline charges aimed toward bettering cost transparency for purchasers because it pertains to checked baggage, baby seating, flight adjustments and cancellations. The proposed rule, which was written by the Department of Transportation, would compel airlines to indicate full price info at the time of buy, permitting consumers to grasp the complete, built-in price of their flight earlier than booking.
Under the Biden Administration’s proposed rule, airlines and third-party booking websites could be “required to obviously disclose” fee information about bags, modifications, or companion seats when displaying details about flights traveling to or from the United States. While most airlines cost checked baggage fees for golf bags, so far, there’s little consistency throughout the business as to price. Delta, United and American Airlines — three of the U.S.’s largest carriers — each cost between $30-45 per bag, while finances carriers like Spirit, JetBlue and Frontier charge variable rates depending upon the time of buy.
For golfers, this problem manifests itself in two ways. Many players (this author included) are keen to commerce value for consistency, flying just one airline in the hopes of earning frequent flyer perks like free checked baggage, even when that effort comes at the expense of probably the most direct (or cost-effective) route. Others who fly their clubs on quite so much of airlines find a price hike in shock fees at the time of reserving or on the airport.
For those who incessantly travel with their golf clubs, the steering likely comes as excellent news.
